Lamar Alexander Clark

Lamar Alexander Clark, age 75, died Sunday, May 26,2024, after a brief illness. Lamar was the son of Herschel Alexander and Katherine Shearer Clark and was a lifetime resident of Gadsden County. Lamar is survived by his wife, Jane Wagner Clark and son, Alexander Matthew Clark (Scarlet Santonia) of Greensboro, brother Allen Clark (Kelly), sister Mary Katherine Edwards (Rick) all of Lake Talquin, and brother Robert Clark, Chattanooga, TN, a host of nieces and nephews, and a family of Clarks that span the county.

Lamar had fond memories of growing up in Greensboro and attending Greensboro High School, where he served as Senior Drum Major of the Award-Winning Greensboro Band in 1967. A graduate of Florida State University, Lamar held a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Music and Education, a Master Degree in Music, and an Educational Leadership Degree. He was a wonderful teacher for over 40 years in music and exceptional education, and loved and encouraged his students to always do their best. As a member of the Marine Corps, Lamar was a bugler in the Drum and Bugle Corps, known as “The Commandant's Own", based at the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C.

Anyone who knew Lamar, knew he loved music and singing and teaching others. He served as Minister of Music at several churches. He was a faithful member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, Chattahoochee, where he served as deacon for many years. He was cherished by the youth department, eager to help on any project, and led the congregational singing. He was known to stop in the middle of a hymn and proclaim, “Folks, ya’ll know this one, look up and sing!”

He will be missed by all who knew him. He was an honest man, who’s word was a good as a contract, who appreciated all of God’s creatures, by feeding every bird and squirrel in his yard. He loved creating anything from wood, sharing all the vegetables he grew, and his mastery of making jelly from anything that might be tasty. Mostly, he loved his family.

Visitation with family is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29th with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m.  Flat Creek Baptist Church 3626 Flat Creek Rd., Chattahoochee, FL 32324
